Over the last year, I’ve dabbled more into using herbs at home and for dietary reasons wanted to start growing some veggies. And I also wanted to learn to make my own salsa and pickles. So join my porch-raised bed herb and veggie garden.
So let’s see how I got started and I will do progress posts on how it is going.
Starting my porch garden.
First, of course, I went on a shopping spree for the things that I needed.
With all of my supplies in tow, I set out on my mission and started with my seeds and Jiffy Greenhouse Kit. I had planned a variety of herbs and vegetables:
- Tomatoes
- Tomatillos
- Cucumbers
- Peppers (several varieties)
- Strawberries (I bought two plants)
- Dill
- Rosemary
- Sage
- Lavender
- Peppermint
- Thyme
- Chives
- Parsley
- And a few others.
With my supplies, I began the seedling process for my porch raised herb & veggie garden.
This was a fun part, however, I am terrible with my patience, and waiting for them to sprout was not fun.
And then they started sprouting.
And then of course my cats destroyed them when I transferred most of them to the pool. Also, great tip, I had bought my dogs a pool last summer for them to keep cool in and well they never used it. My wild girls prefer any puddles or ditches they can find around the house.
But after the great cat slaughter of my seedlings, I’ve reoriented and my little porch garden is growing better than ever.
Soon I will post photos of veggies coming in and whatever wild salsa and pickle recipes that I come up with.
Let me know if you guys have any fun gardening tips for me since I am a beginner.
