Okay so today there are going to be two tasks that you have to complete and get started on. You will be writing your next 5,000 words and hopefully your word count will be up to 10,000 at the end of the day or maybe even more. Hey more is awesome, and just means that you are closer to your goal. And the second task will be forming your team, or reaching out and getting started with it.
Your initial team will consist of about 5 beta readers and an editor, or you can use a beta reader that also edits. The editor would need to be scheduled to look at your work around Day 19. Depending on their schedule you could either be behind a couple of days on release, or right on track. Hopefully if you have a good on call editor they will be expecting your work and ready to go.
So as far as beta readers I have outlined this blueprint to have four sections of beta reading. The first time after around 22,000 words, the second around 44,000 words, the third around 60,000 when the book is complete and then a final time to read the book in it’s entirety to give some final feedback.
And between each round of sending to the beta readers there will be a day of editing and revising. My hope is that there most errors and story problems will be found and that way the editor will not have much work and will be able to get the finished manuscript back to you quickly for release day.
So to find your five awesome beta readers who will give story feedback and guidance, which we will touch on more on another day very soon.
Places to find beta readers:
- Facebook groups – There are literally hundreds crawling with readers and beta readers looking for awesome new books to read.
- Goodreads groups – Same with good old Facebook, these groups are fantastic.
- Friends – And by friends I mean those who are bugging you for your next book and love to read and can give objective feedback.
- Book bloggers – While they are typically very busy with a TBR sky high if you are friendly with one and they have sometime they typically will beta read.
So take sometime today to reach out and to start forming your team. In a few days we will be talking about how you will get your work to them and how they are going to be leave their notes for you.
Now get to reaching out, writing those words and be sure to sign up for the daily email.
